Hello

Welcome to my page. My name is Julie and I am the founder of Forget-Me-Not Crafts.

I have been creating and making things since I was a child and have always loved working with my hands, my Mum taught me to sew at an early age. My career did not start in textiles though, it started in swimming and swimming teaching. During school I joined the Sharks Swimming Club in Nottingham and loved it. David, the founder and head teacher taught me to swim and through the years, how to be a Swimming Teacher. He got me through all my qualifications and I loved what I did. Having gained full qualifications in Swimming Teaching and Tutoring I gained letters after my name and David and I became known in the swimming world as highly technical Tutors. Our relationship bloomed and after quite some time together we finally married, much to the delight of our families! My career took a turn when the governing body of swimming in the UK changed all their policies, guidelines, qualification and tutoring processes more and more and as we were being asked to retrain; I felt obliged to resign. I was so disappointed as it was what I wanted to do since I was 10 years old. But, as one door closes another opens... my husband had his own business making Dolls House Miniatures then, alongside his Tutoring and so as he left swimming too, I continued working with him, making miniature cushions and curtains etc. When his successful business ceased through retirement, I began making full sized items and it stemmed from there to where I am today! I am self taught and I am very critical of my own work, I am a perfectionist and strive to bring attention to detail in all I make, I hope you will see that in my photographs and ultimately in your purchases. I also hope to continue doing this work for as long as possible as I love it and takes me right back to my creative roots.

What I do now...

I design, make and sell items using textiles, mostly Harris Tweed as you will see on my website. The design process for any item can take several weeks, as an item develops from idea to reality. I am influenced by many things including things I see on TV, read about, see on the Internet or simply see walking down the street. My items are all original to me and although you may see items similar elsewhere, they are not the same - I like unique to me and therefore to you.  I like you to have one off items. I will make several of one thing, but they will all have differences somehow, albeit colour, sizing, an additional pocket or a longer strap, there are intentional differences which I love.

Commissions

Would you like to have something made especially for you? Or as a beautiful gift for someone you love? I do take commissions, if I am able to source all the fabrics and materials needed for the project, based on the items you will see in my store.

For commissions where no extra supplies are needed and there is no change to the design, the price will remain the same as the original item you saw in my store. If alterations to design are needed or items need to be sourced, there will be a 20% of the original item's price commission fee on top of the original item's price.
